Anyone want to take a guess…

…as to Parker’s birthday?

I went to the hospital tonight for another steroid shot per doctor’s orders. At my appointment yesterday, he said that my cervix is anterior and that he thinks I’ll be probably be having this baby within the next 2 weeks (of course, he was surprised I even made it to 32 weeks). I, however, do not want to have this baby just yet! For one thing, I am only 32 weeks today. Babies typically get the sucking reflex at about 34 weeks. I would rather not have to leave my baby in the NICU until he learns to eat. Been there, done that… and it was a total nightmare. Also, Andrew had to have 2 blood transfusions due to complications with being Coomb’s positive and premature and so I would really like to avoid any similar scenarios. Additionally, Olivia’s birthday is next week and she is really looking forward to her princess party. I would be very sad to miss my little girl’s birthday. So Parker, stay put for a couple of weeks, ok?!

I have 2 guesses for his birthday: either November 26th or December 6th. All of our boys have been born on days that end in a numeral corresponding to their birth order (and Parker is the 6th child, so…).  However, November 26th I will only be 33 weeks + 6 days so we would probably be looking at a NICU stay.  December 6th I will be 35 weeks + 2 days so hopefully we would avoid the NICU.  However, my parents will be in Hawaii then so it’s still not an ideal day!  So that leaves December 16th.  It’s very doubtful that I would make it that far though.

Stop growing up so fast!

Tonight on the way to a birthday party, Jared had the radio on and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was playing.  About halfway through the song Taylor says, “Wow!  This song is awesome!”  He is his father’s child.

On the way home from the party Taylor says to Jared, “Dad, you are driving over the speed limit.  The speed limit is 25 and you are going 30.”  I said teasingly, “Wow, Tay, you know the rules of the road already!  I think you are ready to drive.  What kind of car do you want us to get you?”  Taylor replied, “I want to make my own car.”  That would be my engineering-minded son, alright.  So what does Jared do?  He pulls over (we were almost home and on a deserted street where they are just starting to build homes but no one lives there yet) and lets the 3 older boys all take turns steering the car.  His hand was on the wheel the whole time but it still made me nervous.  It sure made their night though.  They actually did well.  I guess all that practice driving their Jeep around the neighborhood is paying off.  Oh, yes, can’t forget Olivia’s part in all this.  After I asked Taylor what kind of car he wanted, Olivia says, “I want to have a real Barbie car!”
